pypes c3 kit
i was considering changing my exhaust to try something different. i know there were alot of guys on this forum that bought the complet kit from pypes for there c3's and had problem with them not fitting right, does anyone know if the kit has been revised to fit any better? i dont want to buy it if theres going to be more cutting and welding than needs to be. i understand nothings direct fit but want it to be atleast close

I can't comment on the Pypes kit, but I did buy the Corvette Central 2.5" kit (stock manifolds, Magnaflows) last week. I'll post a clip or two and my feedback once installed. Good luck with whatever you decide

I have a very early Pypes kit with the Race Pro mufflers. The sound is great and I get lots of compliments about the sound. I did not have to many issues with it, but then again I don't have the spare tire tub in so more room to play with.

is was wondering if i would be better of just buying some mandrel bends and doing it myself, but im lazy and was considering the violator mufflers to go with the kit

I installed a Pypes kit on my76 and helped a friend with his 78 a little over 2 years ago. Fitment from the X pipe back was pretty good - not perfect but OK. The down pipes from the exhaust manifold to the X pipe were HORRIBLE - nothing aligned at all. Used my original 2 1/2" stainless pipes from CC - PERFECT!
When Pypes introduced the C3 system, I think they felt one size fit all - which is NOT the case. I will say that the reps were very helpful & we got through the issues. I have heard the newer offerings are much better.

would be tempted but my year vette is a '79. unless you have the offset/offset style. believe you may have a center outlet for you year vette

I bought the 2.5" stainless set with the X pipe and the fit is terrible from the headers back. I kept the spare tire holder and still haven't completed the modifications. I've had to cut and tig weld in several locations and gave up after about 10 hours. I may only have a couple hours left but when you're working by yourself it's not that easy.
Here are a couple pictures of what I was up against.

If you have the clearance, I would take a come-a-long and pull the driver side header over. I wouldn't do it if you aluminum heads though

I agree that if modified it would fit but the cost or my labor just isn't worth the agrivations for the modifications. If I had to do it over again I wouldn't purchase Pypes. Keep in mind I'm not finished installing it yet so I don't even know how it sounds.

Pypes exhaust on a '74
I am dealing with Pypes right now. The new part numbers are SCC 10 for 75-81 cars & SCC 12 for 68 - 74 cars. The difference seems to be whether the exhaust goes under the bumper or through the valance. I can't seem to convince them that 1974's were the same as 75's, not 73's

I have the pypes set up installed on my car. I have not run it yet because it's in the body shop right now but I had to mount support rods on my crossmember and attach them to the x pipe to get them to stay lined up on both ends. Had to do some fab'ing to get the collectors mounted too. Hope it was all worth it when it's done.

On a different note the 2.5 inch magnaflow kit i got from corvette central matched up to my stock manifolds perfectly front to back. When I put in headers I just cut the pipes behind where the headers go and drove it to a shop to have custom pipes welded in to connect.

I think the bottom line is it's somewhat of a hit and miss with very few kits fitting perfect. So far I haven't heard of Pypes stepping up to the plate to assist, at least that's the case with me.
