do you really have to redo your rear suspension every 5 years? thats crazy!

No.....you don't ! I used cheap u-joints and paid the price.....one started making a real bad noise....but if I was gonna take it all apart anyway - I wanted to re-clean and re-paint while I was in there.

That cheap u-joint was SHOT.....I bought Spicer's from Van Steel.....WAY better u-joints.

And those shock mounts just will not come lost.
That long bolt through the trailing arm...Don't be afraid of it....it IS a SOB....not gonna lie... But another person did it....I've done it - it's do-able ! LONG needle nose pliers are yer friend here....takes some time and a buddy helping is cool too.

Doing it alone, I've spent 2 hours or more trying to get that dang bolt back in....but it DOES go back. Or pay a machinac a lot of $$$....

You CAN do it.

How many miles should you expect to go before the trailing arms need to be rebuilt?

Depends on the quality of the parts, how hard you drive it...etc...
But I would say under normal conditions 75K plus.

I love the simplicity totally not afraid of this project anymore. not gonna pay a mechanic and at least now i will have more money for beer. maybe i can move up from pabst to lonestar now...
