Hello everyone! Although I do not have a Corvette, I do have three bowties. I have a 2001 SS (no SLP options) and a 1984 Z28 L69 which can both be seen at my website in the links provided. I also have another 1984 Z28 that I will be restoring. My father always has loved Corvettes (I am a Camaro enthusiast, if you couldn't tell). About ten years ago he acquired this 1978 Corvette. It has a white exterior, mahogany leather, T-tops, TH350 and an L48. I have verified that it is a numbers matching car, not like an L48 matching car is worth something (I don't know), and my Father would like to keep it as OEM as possible. I would like to up the power to 300 (f) HP and he like the idea of swapping in a 700-R4.
Anyway, I have done pretty good finding Corvette specs about it, but does anyone know where I can find the SPID label or RPO list? Maybe a build sheet? I am very familiar with GM codes, so I know what I am looking for, but not in a Corvette. Would GM's restoration kit provide us with the options this car came with and possibly where it was first sold. An odd thing about this car is that it does not have a smog pump or air tubes, I have reason to believe it is a federal car, possibly first sold in Canada, has a Canadian dealer sticker on it. But who knows. Were some 1978s built without the smog pump and air tubes? I have seen a Pace car (at Coast Corvette) with the exact same setup as ours. Any help to restore this car is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
The tank sticker is the only one sent on the car and as stated can be a bear to get to. It is taped on the top of the gas tank. But there are report of other copies (it was a multi-part carbon that was used up and down the assembly line) being found in the seat springs, under the carpet, and up under the dash between the speedo and tach.
But you state that the car has a Canadian sticker on it. If so you can get a copy of the details on the car from Chevy/Canada. I do not know the contact but hopefully someone here can provide that info.
Chevy did not keep the records of builds at the st louis plant. They apparently were all destroyed. But for cars built at Bowling Green (1981 and later) records are available through the National Corvette Museum.
If the car was originally delivered in Canada it should a KPH predominate speedo rather than a MPH speedo.
I think I remember someone from Canada saying the Canadian restoration kit did have a list of the options on the vehicle as there records were not destroyed.
Maybe someone from Canada answer.
Uhm, yeah it's a real limited edition. ;) Thanks rambler323, I fixed that. :)
Thanks everyone, I'll look on top of the gas tank. I vaguely remember reading about that somewhere. As for the K/hr, no it doesn't have a metric speedo. Maybe it was just sold to a canadian and then brought back.
I just checked that link, at least I know our block is a CUT 185HP AT engine. :D
