Ive been inquiring recently about the different types of cam and what not. I have always understood how they work, and what the specs of the cams meant, but didnt understand the different types such as hydraulic, roller, and solid. I had an understanding of how each worked and what not, but didnt understand which lifters worked with which, and other small things....I could give it a shot explaining them, but would rather have somone do it properly than me possibly tear it apart.
One could say the cam is the engine's mechanical "program".
Read everything, separate the fact from the fiction, build engines w/ different cams. That will get you started.
OR do like most- when you get a Vette, post the info. & can cam.
i know that was sort of a vague question but after talking to my roomate for about ten minutes on the subject i realized i knew almost nothing about them. Besides the fact that I really don't like knowing less than the people around me, I've decided to try and learn something new every couple weeks and you guys are great for pointing me in the right direction. Thanks again for all the help.
I have a copy of an indepth article that a good friend of mine wrote on just this subject. It was even published within the last year in one of the car mags, just can't remember it off the top of my head. Send me youe e-mail addy and I'll send it to you. cnlwilliams@dragonbbs.com
