Hey guys,
I had questions a while back regarding my headlight problems and one of you sent me a great guide to troubleshoot. I have done so and I've noticed when I plug two of the vacuum reservoir nipples, I don't have vacuum when I hook my vacuum pump to the third. Could this be my problem? I think the canister should keep a vacuum and I have looked but see no cracks where the air could be escaping.
My reason for checking is because even after replacing all the vacuum lines from the actuators to the firewall, my lights still are sluggish. The gauge says the engine is producing between 10 to 15 (pounds i believe). When I apply vacuum to the actuators the needle declines VERY slowly so I don't think it would be enough of a leak to cause problems.
I'm starting to get really frustrated because I've already replaced the relays, and filters as well as all springs.
when you pump up your vac pump ,pump it verry fast and a lot .when i did the check on my tank it took alot of pumping but it did hold air.check all the moving points of you lights ,lube with wd-40 and see if they work better .also check the line from the motor to the tank just to be shure.http://www.corvette-101.com/vacuum.htm#actuator
You could try this. Buy a T fitting , remove all 3 hoses from the vac tank, attach the 3 hoses to the T fitting ( this will bypass the tank).
Start the car and operate the lights , if the problem is gone your tank was probably leaking.
I agree with Terry it takes a lot of pumping with a little hand pump.
thanks guys. I'll try both your suggestions and see if I can't get this solved.
This is the way that I found the leaks in mine. My vacuum tester also does pressure, so I blocked two of the three ports, connected the tester to the third port and pumped it as I held the tank under water in a bucket. Found bubbles coming from the leaks. I sealed it with epoxy putty and 3M 5200 marine sealer.
