Steering column in car is tilt/tele. It's a bit loose at the tilt junction point. Not extreme but it does move a bit in all directions. I've read Jim Shea's papers and propose to rebuild this winter. I believe the bolts inside are loose as I've read.
Question: is this a safety problem?? Can it be left till end of Sept (car off the road then)?? Can it actually come apart?? It's been like this for quite a while.
You will probably be fine. Mine was real loose when I bought it and it did not fall apart. I think the 4 bolts have quite a few threads so don't worry too much, especially since Sept is around the corner and you said you won't be driving it. You will be happy once it is fixed though.
Do you know how to work the telescope feature? It took me quite a while to figure it out myself. I didn't even know that I had tele until I turned the horn ring by accident and the steering wheel pulled out some.
I wouldn't let it go too long however. The loose bolts can cause the end of the jacket to fatigue and then you will be in real trouble. Steering column tubular jackets are very difficult to find.
