Ok I just put a 2004R into my 1976 Corvette, runs just fine but I don't have 4th gear, it will stay in 3rd and when I let off the gas my RPMs will just drop down to idle. I read on here that I could possibly have an air pocket or something keeping it from shifting, I guess tomorrow I will try to run it hard and force a shift out of it unless anyone else has any other ideas.
First thing to check is that throttle cable adjustment, it should be very snug at WOT....and a slight tension/pull at idle, adjusted with engine not running.....
make sure there is a spring tension on your cable, that the thing is hooked up completely down at the tranny, inside the pan....
I assume you have the lockup wired correctly....
after that, the guys you need talk to are TimAT, then Sixfooter, Danny......
A couple things to check
3-4 shift valve or 3-4 throttle valve stuck
Orifice in spacer plate plugged
Center support attaching bolts loose or missing
Fourth clutch damaged
Fourth clutch piston seals damaged, missing or improperly assembled
3-4 accumulator bore damaged
Thanks for the input, I did some research and found that a newly rebuilt 2004r could develop a small air pocket and prevent 4th gear from engaging, so I ran the **** out of it, hit about 100 in 3rd and it finally shifted into 4th. Now everything works great, shifts into 4th every time. Oh btw nice picture you have Artsvette73, I work on the AH-1 for a living
