Finally taken delivery of my 1st vette, a 69 convertible and have started to investigate whats right and whats not. My washes didn't work so I started investigating and have found that I don't have any washer jets. I have done some searching on the net and found that I should have three jets is this correct? If so where do they mount and are they still available? I don't think the pump works (this I can fix) and I don't seem to have a water resoviour is this still available and where does it mount in the engine bay?
Some 69 Vettes also had headlamp washers included, look for the silver nozzles in your headlamp housings to see if yours is so equipped. If you want all the system to work you will need to buy parts/hoses and a 5 port washer pump for the headlamp system. The 5port pump is expensive, you can run a standard 3 port system if you only want a functional wiper washer system.
Being from OZ, you could also fabricate wiper arm washer jets from 1/16" soft brass tubing. I have made these tubes in the past by crimping the ends, drilling water jets into them and soldering a 1/8" tube on the end for the rubber hose to create a retention nipple for the rubber hose. The original nylon tube clips are expensive, if originality is not important nylon wire ties will work for retaining your washer tubes to the wiper arms.
The washer fluid reservoir for non-air conditioned cars is a black hard plastic container mounted low on the passenger's side inner fender apron toward the fire wall. Original reservoirs have marks for full, 1/2, etc.
On cars equipped with air conditioning, the fluid reservoir is a soft plastic bag. The front of the bag is clear plastic while the back is a canvas textured dark grey to black in color. In 68 the bag mounts on the passenger side fender apron. In 69, it mounts on the driver's side firewall below the fender.
69's came with a 3-port pump which had a solenoid attached to it for the headlight washers. 68's did not have this solenoid.
This was a picture I took of a cutaway 69 non air 427 as I recall. You can see the black tank below the coolant overflow tank. This mounts to the right side inner fender.
My 69 came with a 2 pumps 1 for the headlights and one for the windshield.
