upshifting problem th400

upshifting problem th400

I can shift from park to reverse, neutral, and 1rst gear but when i try to shift from 1rst to 2nd it just stays in 1rst. The transmission fluid is at full. and by the way the car usually sits for months at a time. i think the last time i drove before a week ago was 5 years ago. and before that time... 10 years ago. but now i finally have the time to fix it up... and it won't shift.

Can somebody please help me with my car....

Check the vaccuum line to the vaccuum modulator on the passenger side of your th400. If disconnected the tranny wont shift out of 1st.

A faulty kickdown/detente solonoid can produce the same indication.
