I'm trying to take off some stuck rotors on my 69 and am having not luck. Does anybody have any tips on how to get them off? I’ve banged on them with a 5lb hammer. Heated them up & also used liquid wrench.
Hi MMH2009,
Look at the rotors between the wheel lug nuts and if it looks like there are rivet still on the rotor then the rivets are holding the rotor to the wheel hub. You'll have to drill them out to get the rotor off. GM did this at the assy plant to make it easier and faster while the car went down the line.
Someone else will chime in and hopefully let you know which size bits to drill them out with.
Are they the original rotors? If so they are riveted on the hub and you will have to drill out the rivets to get them off. Rear rotors can get stuck due to the e-brake hardware rusting, but the original rear rotors are also riveted on.
When replacing rotors you have to get the runout within spec or you will have problems with getting air into the brake system.
