82 Brake lights are out
The brake lights on my 82 are lighting when the brake is depressed. I tried some advice given here- checked stop/hazard fuse and turn signal fuse- both are fine. The hazard lights, turn signals, reverse and parking lights also work. What can cause the brake lights not to work? Any easy home fix or does my mechanic need to get involved?

The brake lights run thru the turn signal switch. As you describe, all other lights are working correctly. Narrows it down. The power to the stop lights runs up from the brake switch, thru the turn switch and then out to the same bulb filament the turn signal uses. When you have the turn signals on, then step on the brake, it allows the off-side bulb to light and the on-side to blink.
Changing the turn switch is time consuming, but not really difficult. A couple of special tools needed that are available on a "loan" basis from most major auto parts stores.
