The folks at Mid America decided to surprise me by selling some side pipes to me with an as advertised "all mounting hardware included :bs ". Well, $800.00 and several days later they are here with no mounting hardware. They can get it... in a month and it costs like $50.00 and they do not know what the kit is comprised of, they jilted me once, not again. So, if the pictures show up here I would like to humbly request that if any of you have used this type of pipe, or have seen it used what did the mount at the exit end of the pipe look like? I pondered momentarily and could not come up with a suitable nut / bolt and hanger vision...
One picture is the pipe the other is a view from under the frame where the welded tang on the pipe seems to fall when propped up in position.
I wish ZIP carried these things but Ecklers and Mid America seemed to be my only options.
You are missing the carriage bolts that slide in the slots in your frame just above that big washer welded on the end of the sidepipes. This big washer bracket is sandwiched between two thick rubber washers and a steel bushing with a washer on it and then held up with a nut on the carriage bolt. The only thing holding the front will be the manifold bolts. You are probably missing the rear brackets for the side covers as well.
Yes what Binne77 says. I ordered the mounting hardware through Ecklers for $35 which included the Carriage bolts, Thick Black Washers (one goes on each side of the eye on the pipe in your pic...one against the frame, and the other on the outside), Steel Washers, and Lock Washers.
I went through Rick.Marders@Ecklers.net , ext-4861-800-327-4868 I looked at my old email, he never referenced a pt number....just a side pipe mounting kit for $35 (by the way no more stuff than is here, it might be worth a trip to the local hardware store, all you need is a couple long carriage bolts, nuts, large flat washers, and large rubber pieces (these would be the tough ones to find). Good Luck.
Btw looks like the car is coming along nicely...love that nice looking frame.
And Roll Tide, just don't roll too much when you guys come to Norman next year. I'm a Sooner Alum, but I root for the tide a lot too (when you're not playing us that is)....sure hated to hear about the probation.
Check: http://www.corvette-paragon.com Not saying this is the best place to buy, but it will show you what you need. It's on page 76 of their 2001-02 catalog. It's only $35.00 for the kit. You can make up your own kit very easily. I do for a 63-69 factory style cover and baffles syetem. Try your local auto parts and muffler shops. JCL   :chevy "Sidepipes are the way"
Corvette central has em too (and cheaper)... Little late to tell you now tho. Also, don't forget to either use the heat riser valve or a spacer on the passenger side at the manifold or your pipe won't look right (like mine for instance)....

Re: Check out these sidepipes! (427V8)
I think BUBBA has some out in the barn, I'll look when I go feed the cows tonight.
Just Kiddin', Go to the Hardware store and get a couple of carriage bolts and some shock absorber cushions and stick them on for a while. Then pickup the correct ones sometime later. They aren't a big deal. But if you didn't understand how it worked from previous knowledge it would look hard to do. Oh yeah, the brackets aren't hard to make either, even for just a temp.fix. JIM

I was told if you use the heat riser, the pipe will hank down to low!!
Nope, I used one bakelite (I think) washer on each side. I had them in my junk bin for many years and I don't know where they originally came from. I haven't driven the car enough to know if it will work for sure yet - they may crack and break. They don't seem to make a rattle though. If that doesn't work I'll probably try a pice of exhaust hangar rubber cut in a doughnut. My pipes were used (very little) but someone had cut the mounting tabs right off - so I had to make those too. Mounting these pipes are really easy.
I am not using the heat riser and my pipes look the same side to side. I'm not sure who the manufacturer is though.
Hey Zora, you should not have much to worry about in Norman this year. My boys may be done pouting by then but the Sooners will probably kill us!
Folks, I can not thank you enough!
This place is absolutely awesome. I will hit a few of the listed vendors and try to find a factory fix.
I realize the mounting is pretty simple I just could not figure this one out, I am from Bama! Anyway, I am probably going to find some shortie headers that will work with the ZZ4 angle plug heads and cut the ends of the pipes off and have them mated to the headers. I am afraid of losing a few horses with the engine exhaling through the cast iron stock units - still on the fence in that department but I am in search of some headers that somewhat shake out with geometry close to the stock units.
I cant wait to hear what these things sound like!
Again thanks to all!!! :seeya
I have L98 Alum Angle head plugs Heads and Used Hedman Side Exhaust Headers.
Use part # 68280. (69286 coated). (s.b. w/side exhaust). They are 1-5/8" x 3". The Summit Part Number and Prices (as of last Aug) are HED68280 HEADER 99.95
HED-68280-6 HEADER COATED 283.95 .
These are sidemount headers, and I did exactly what you have stated...cut off the pipes and took them down to a local muffler shop to be welded up. I used 2.5" B. Block Pipes trying to help with flow as much as possible. ONE THING, lots of people with ZZ4s have said they are using 1X3/4" primary headers as their less restrictive on the heads. Also lots of people using Stahl headers (talk with 427V8) they supposedly are superior to the hedmans but quite a bit more expensive.
Yeah well, I expect the Sooners to be contending for the title again next year (sounds like the Tide may be down for a while.....I know exactly how you feel, our Football program was in a 15 year sleeping period until Stoops came to town)...just hoping we get the B. Ball one first ;). I'm actually planning a road trip to Denny-Braynt Stadium when we play at your home in 03...can't wait to see the Bear's Museum.
If you leave the heat riser in, the right pipe will be too low on the front and if you try to level it the back end will want to turn up slightly. The right pipe in my set was exactly the same height as my left. The pipes in your picture look identical to mine...are they stainless??
These pipes are bent differently, I did not notice this until I looked this morning. Yes, they are stainless. Mid America part#603-898. Verrry nice '77 you have there!!!
Zora; I'll look for that Hedman part#. They must be similar to what I see in my PAW catalog listed as "tight tubes" or "block huggers". I will get with Hedman and look into this. Do you have any pictures of the headers installed???
If you go to T-town in 2003 to watch the game, we will get together. I should have the Vette running by then  .
Till then, stay away from Deep Ellum!!!
Yes..no question, your right one is shorter to accomodate the heat riser valve. You will need to pop the gasket and the insert out of the right pipe as the heat riser mates steel to steel without a gasket. The pipes look great! You will love them :D :D

Binnie - Where did you order your pipes?? I do not want to use the heat riser.
