Default remote brake servo

Does anyone know if it's possible to fit a remote brake servo to a '69 350 manual? If so where would I get one, and would I need a different master cylinder?

Regards,

Barry.

Are you talking about moving your master cylinder and booster (servo) off the firewall?

Why?

Hi, thanks for your reply. There is no booster on my car and I'd like to improve the braking efficiency. I understand that fitting a booster to the firewall can be difficult to access, and so I wondered if a remote booster would solve the problem.
Regards, Barry.

Barry,

Yes, you COULD mount a remote booster, but hell, it would look UGLY!!!! And there is not that much spare room under your bonnet for one. Seriously, all you need is a (preferably) new booster from one of the CF Vendors and a new pair of brake lines to go to the proportioning valve on the chassis below the MC.

I don't know if the original lines would stretch that far, maybe, maybe not. But brake lines are cheap. You don't need to buy some from the US, any decent local brake shop could fab them up. Hey, if you have a double flaring tool, you could do it yourself!

One option that you might want to consider is a Hydroboost, rather than a vacuum booster. You would need to mount a power steering pump if you don't have one fitted. If you do, then it's plain sailing.

Regardless of which booster you choose, getting it mounted is a job best suited to a midget contortionist, but you can make it easier by removing the driver's seat and lie on your back on the floor with your legs on the parcel shelf and an assistant to present the booster to the firewall while you put the nuts on the studs from underneath.

It might be easier still if you remove the steering column before you start, but this is not mandatory.

Good Luck!

Regards from Down Under

Thanks Aussiejohn,

I might consider going for the proper booster and try to fit it as you suggested. I thought I could fit a remote somewhere inconspicuous but it might not be possible.

I spent 3 months in Brisbane and travelled to Sydney, Cairns, Byron Bay, the Gold Coast, and Melbourne in 2003. Very fond memories of Oz.

Regards,

Barry.
