I am reading and reading about swapping an ls1 into my 80' vette. I did the 200r4 trans swap, trashed the trans so now it time to move up in the world. What are some of the "little things" you have run into doing the swap? I have read articles but they never talk about the small stuff that usually adds up in the end. Also, my vette had a TH350 then 200r4... should I go with a T56 or 4l60e? I prefer manual but if it’s going to be a PIA to swap I would just stick with the 4l60e. Whatever input you have would be appreciated.
If I had to do it again, I would have probably taken the extra month or so to convert over to a T56!!
For a 1980, you'll need the high pressure fuel pump set-up, either out of tank inline as others have done, or try to get an 82 tank with in-tank pump (best option for keeping the pump cool) and trans crossmember for a 700R4. An OEM 82 crossmember will work, or a BTO 700R4 conversion crossmember will work.
MY and some other 200 4r I know of have been fine one with a BBC and some 500 hp and torque to match....MY 200 is behind a roller 355, and <400 hp....~425 ft lbs......
who built your 200 and what went rong with it, far as you know???

very curious about that....
Well, at the time I decided to do the 200 swap I got a trans from the junk yard. It worked for what I was going to do at that time. I did the conversion and I did not line up the torque converter up correctly. So, when I started the vette I broke the pump and some gears. Well, now I have met some great people who have some good deals on LS1 engines and transmissions I decided to go all the way and skip spending more money to rebuild/fix the 200.
