Wow, thanks for posting this stuff. It's going to help a lot of other people I'm sure. I'm planning on putting in a new torque converter in a few months. Now I know more about what to look out for. Thanks
Question. Why did you choose this particular torque converter. Some other ones cost $350+. Just wondering how you made your decision and how you think it performs.
Just as an "oh, by the way". Most vacuum modulators won't take 6 turns from the factory setting. About 3 either way is max. Much over that and it'll either lock up, or pop the diaphragm. And that came from one of the tech instructors at GM.
I chose the Jegs solely on budget due to having a new baby, and not as much money to spend on toys
I actually now will be replacing the governor next because WOT is no longer wanting to shift from 2nd to 3rd once the car heats up (20-30 mins of driving) If I let off the gas it shifts fine
I am happy with the way the car is driving with the new converter, it seems to help get it off the line better.
I don't know exactly how to test it but the car will rev to about 1500RPM without really seeming to engage much, then it starts pulling through the brakes at about 2000-2100 RPM.
There seems to be more "Oomph" / Throws you back in your seat with hard acceleration and drives normally under slower acceleration.
