Do you guys think it would work to supercharge a zz4, and if so, what type of supercharger would work, and what other implications would this have>?
tell me your thoughts
ZZ4 comes from the factory with a 10:1 compression ratio, not a terribly good ratio for a supercharger. Because a blower effectively upps the comp ratio you want to start with a lower one like 8:1 or 8.5:1
Whipple just came out with a supercharger (blower actually) made specifically for a stock ZZ4. They claim that it is 100% durable. I know that a whipple is the way to go since it helps with the low-end torque as well as Hp. They claim that you'll end up with 518 hp and 544 lb-ft.

OatBoy, My son and I put an ATI procharger and intercooler on a ZZ4 in a 69 Z28. It worked fantastic. Arount 550-570 hp sure brings a smile when you mash that pedal. We used the carb modified and sold by ATI and a universal tubing kit to join all the parts together. Also was easy to install everything. Might not be quite so easy in a Shark. Hershey :chevy
Wow I can't believe someone is selling a supercharger kit for use on a carb'd 10.0:1 motor with a moderate cam. That's nuts! How much boosot does it produce, does it have an intercooler, and do you have to run race gas in it?
robzr, It runs just fine on the 10:1 comp. Check out ATI's litterature on it. We do keep it running a little rich and it does have an intercooler. We started out with the 6-7 lb boost pulleys, but being power hungry we changed to smaller pulley to up the boost to 8-9 lbs. This car belongs to a local Doctor, so all necessary accessories were added. We put in the largest electric pump that ATI sells and added a rear sump pick to the gas tank. Half inch braided fuel lines and return line were run from tank to regulator, and then duel lines to 650 double pumper provided by ATI. We were able to install intercooler without cutting anything on this beautiful car. With the plentiful supply of fuel and the slightly rich mixture we have never experienced any detonation. He runs 92 octane and adds a little AV gas when he takes it to the track. Right now he is just learning the tree, but can't seem to find enough traction to get anywhere. Also we added a 3 inch exaust attached to the headers he already had. Also added a oxygen sensor and lean/rich guage alone with subframe connecters and drag radials. It is a fun car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
