Default 82 engine pull

I am getting ready to pull the engine on a 82 dual crossfire corvette. I have pulled alot of engines in my time but never one from a corvette. Are there any tricks I should know about that someone could share? One thing I am concerned about is I will be using a cherry picker (shop crane) I am concerned about the length of the nose on the vette. Has anyone ever pulled one from the side and would this be easier ? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

do it from the side....much easier. remove the wheel and sit on jack stand, then use crane.

Probably silly of me to mention this but I just pulled the engine from my 1980 - don't forget to remove the hood. There is a youtube video of a guy pulling a corvette motor without doing so - and hitting the hood with the engine several times. On mine I was able to pull from the front (don't have room on the sides in my garage) without a problem - just anchor one end of your chain to an intake manifold bolt towards the front of the engine, and the other end of your chain to a manifold bolt towards the rear.

On the other hand if you're using a lift plate you'll have a hard time finding a shop crane with enough reach to life the engine from the front. I live in the Seattle area and I couldn't find one with a long enough arm anywhere around here, to use a lift plate.

Just did it a few weeks ago. Was not bad at all. Position crane from side as mentioned above. Remove a tire. If your pulling the engine only should not need to remove rad.
Remove hood.

Thanks for the replies. I started it today. The car did not get here until 5:30 so all I got done was removing the front tires, putting the front up on jack stands and some of the top wiring harness removed. If I run into a jamb,I'll be asking more questions. Thanks again!!!

However good you believe your memory is, take pictures as you remove stuff. That will help save you posting "where does this thing go" threads.

Thats a good idea,I can't remember 5 minutes ago. I am switching it over to a 4 bbl carborator and putting it in my camaro. It should be alot simpler setup. I appreciate all the help you guys are giving me,I wish the people at the camaro forum were this helpful.

Agreed, take lots and lots of pictures. My 1981 had a ton of wires and harnesses and pictures will later pay off.
