Drained the radiator and pulled the drain plugs on each side of the block. Going to refill, my question is, do I need to pull thermostat or can I fill with out pulling thermostat.
If you're gonna change the stat, my engine builder showed me a trick. He used white lithium grease instead of gasket sealer. That was 10 years ago and I've changed the stat many times since. The benefit is there is no gaskets to scrape off when changing...the old gasket just lifts off. I still use a new gasket each time.
I usually remove the heater hose from the top of the intake manifold and fill the radiator until coolant comes out of the top of the intake. Seems to get more of the air out of the system.
I've always felt the key is to get the pump full , it doesn't like air. Once the pump is primed it forces the air out of the block.
I've gone over to peoples houses that were having trouble and did nothing but loosen the plug on top of the pump and let the air out,and the engine was fine after that.
