Ebay is your friend at that price level for long equal length headers. Most good name-brand headers for C3's seem to been in the $500-ish range these days. Corvette Central's Hookers are over that a little. You can find block hugger shorty ones for less, but they are a real compromise and tend to only be marginally better than factory HP rams horn manifolds.
i put shorty street rod headers on my '76 and love them. they are stainless steel and were under $400. got them from ss autochrome on ebay. they also have a website. you can still use your AC if you have it. just need to add fillers on the bolt that holds on the compressor that use to go through the cast iron manifold. you will also need to mod the exhaust pipe a bit as with any header. the flanges on the headers from ss are very thick and will not warp like other cheapies.
I used to have stainless steel block hugger headers I bought on eBay. I DO NOT recommend them. I had to remove the headers to get at 4 spark plugs, they burned out the spark plug boots on several sets of wires, and they melted the poly out of my engine mounts.
I switched to full length ceramic coated Dynomax headers from Summit. They are now sold under the Hooker name for $395:
A search in the Summit website will yield good results.
I ran across these when shopping for my '69:
Headman Elite Thermial Coated 14 guage $300.00
Headman Street Ceramic Coated 18 guage $360.00
Hooker Chassis mount, Cerimic Coated 18 guage 395.00
Hooker chassis mount, black painted 16 guage $185
Flowtech chassis mount, cerimic coated 18 guage $259.00
You won't find my favorite in their offerings and the price is out of your limit but I recomend Stan's Headers, TriY headers @$480.00. TriYs are a lost art but make really usable street horsepower.

do you have angled plug heads? mine are straight and easy to get to with the shorty headers. also no probs. with engine mounts. just curious.
No, I have standard GM iron Vortec heads with straight plugs. Not all shorty headers are block huggers though.
I don't know for sure, but I think other symmetric design headers (e.g., Hedman Elite 6830x or Street Hedders) would have a similar problem because of the location of engine mounts relative to the vertical line between 3-5 and 4-6. I would choose an asymmetric design like some of the Hooker, Flow-Tec and Patriot designs first.
It's just one more factor to consider when choosing headers.
I highly recommend headman long tubes. They are easily in your price range and they sound great. I get nothing but compliments on how my car sounds and asked pretty frequently at corvette meets (like eureka springs last year) what I am running. Right now I have them connected to a set of cheap 18" thrush mufflers, and turned out to the side so they are as far away from the composite spring as possible.. lol.
Mine are powdercoated but they sell them in multiple finishes. The fitment is really good, but on my heads I have to use a protector on the 5 and 6 spark plug wires - the looms I have kind of cause that though.
If you want any pics or sound clips let me know, I would be more than happy to post some.
Summit sells full length headers for 100 bucks. I have a set, they work fine, pretty easy install as well. I had to ditch them, though, as I have since lowered my car, and those headers hung low enough to make me nervous. If you want em, they are yours for 50 bucks plus shipping. PM me for pics.
