Default Carb float adjustment gaskets?

Maybe my technique is wrong, but every time I go to adjust the float height on my Holley I end up tearing the black adjusting nut or lock screw paper washers.

Seems when they see a little fuel they get VERY fragile. I even make sure to make my adjustments slowly and with little pressure and they still tear.

Last time I adjusted I had to put up with tearing the gaskets to get the float height correct and then I put in the new ones once the height was dialed in, so I still needed to have some on hand.

Does anyone sell packs of these little washers/gaskets?

Better yet, does anyone make these out of a stronger material?

That would be ideal.

i use sealing washers from transmission pump bolts, i think there are for a 700r4(don't hold me to that though) , there are very thin metal washers with a coating on them to seal, they work great on the holley carbs and there are resuseable, so you only have to buy them once! Go to your local trans parts warehouse and should be able to hook you up with what will work!

Thanks for the advice.

I think the use of such fragile washers at this place on the carb is stupid. Nobody wants a pressurized fuel leak out of the top of the fuel bowl.

Sounds like your coated metal washer idea might be a worthy upgrade, even if I only adjust my floats every now and then. It's easier than replacing those cheap gaskets.

Most speed shops have stock piles of the stock fragile washers in containers behind the service desk. I just asked, and he pulled out a plastic tray with compartments full of different tiny gaskets. I try to keep a few extra's on hand, because I tear them up just like you regardless of how careful I am.

As soon as you posted this question I started thinking about buying some thin gas friendly plastic like material, and using a punch set to make my own.

I'll have to look into the "sealing washers from transmission pump bolts". That sounds like a good idea.
