Hey guys...maybe yall can help me with a few questions I wanna clear up. Well...my stock oil pressure guage works fine and it reads from 40-60 lbs depending on temp. But I also have an after market guage hooked up to the oil pressure port in front of the water neck. (where the older small blocks had an oil filler) What kind of oil pressure should this be reading after running through the crank and cam?
Are you connecting the second oil gauge here?
This is where the oil gauge is connected in my car because bubba damaged the original terminal near the distributor.
I guess you are asking because the two gauges do not read the same. But I think they should. The difference of the oil pressure in the whole system should not drop significantly. If the two instruments are dreading different, I would suspect the corvette instrument reading wrong. Mine was reading about 25lbs too low.
Thats the port. It reads differant only at lower rpms and when warm. Im worried b/c this one is reading 15-20 at 550rpm. When it gets to 1000 its at 30. My stock guage at 550 reads 35-40. Any other ideas??
What would cause such a dramatic differance? Also...do the oil galleries supply any kind of oil to the fuel pump pushrod?? Ive lost pressure on my pump at extended higher rpms and am wondering if this has anything to do with it.... The engine runs fine in town...but the fuel pump is leaning out my carb and heating up on the highway. Any more info?
It is possible that a cam bearing or lifter/bore are a little worn but as long as you have good oil pressure on the bottom I don't think you have a problem as the engine doesn't need much at idle. Also if you were too low I would think there would be some lifter noise. So far as I know the fuel pump rod is only splash feed. If it leans out at high speed I would look at fuel filter or other fuel related parts

A "better" port is the one that is right above the oil filter. It should be on the driver's side of the block about .5-1" above the filter connector.
Also, at low RPM, the camshaft and fuel pump rod are splash oiled. This is why the "cold" idle RPM is so high on initial startup...to move oil around fast.
As for the fuel problems...the oiling of the pump rod has nothing to do with that. I'd check the fuel system for problems. :smash:
