Default So much for the u-joint

So, I was reassembling the rear driveline after the suspension rebuild. And I used my trusty made-in-taiwan Allied 3/8" drive u-joint to torque the inner u-joint caps to 30 ft-lbs (it's a big block). Then this happened.

It's kinda' hard to see in the picture, but obviously the thing broke.

30 ft-lbs? Geesh!

Of course, I think it was used last season to re-attach the transmission to the engine. But still....

So I pulled out my Craftsman u-joint and it finished the job.

Anyone know where my friendly neighborhood Allied tool store is? I'd like to return it under the lifetime warranty program. I'm holding my breath!

I've broke several of those in "Craftsmen" and since there is a Sears about 5mi from me, I've always gotten a replacement in about 10mins!!! One thing I love about Craftsmen tools. Seems no matter how many you destroy, it always gets replaced!!! :yesnod:

No flame intended here, but you shouldn't use a u-joint when torquing to spec. The u-joint will misrepresent the actual torque.

FIrst of all, :nono: to ujoint use on a torque wrench. you will never get the bolt to the correct torque specs.

Secondly, I only use SnapOn tools. I have never broken their u joint extensions or adapters. And there stuff is warranted agianst failure.
