I'm am not a mechanic by any means. But, I know you guys will know what's up.
I've got a "ticking" when accelerating, it disapears when I get up to speed(any speed).
Any help is greatly appreciated.

By ticking could you be referring to detonation (pinging). Does this only under load or hard acceleration? If it is, maybe try running higher octane gas.
If the ticking noise is under acceleration only and not at cruse, and a little at idle. I think it is a simple exhaust leak, had one of my smog pump plugs on the exhaust manifold fallout the other day. at idle slight ticking, during acceleration constant ticking, backing off or at cruse no ticking. How to track it down, engine running hood open Rev engine by hand at carb if it is an exhaust leek you will be able to hear it and find it easy this way. GOOD LUCK. firstvett69
Likely an exhaust leak like others have said. I had one for a couple years I couldn't track down. When I removed the headers it had a small hole on the inside area of the pipe that faced the engine and could not be seen while they were installed. They can be tough to find but that's what it sounds like the problem is.
