An interesting sidelight is that initially I asked my local GM dealer for an estimate to do the job. They refused as they did not have anyone who knew how to do it. If I remember correctly the Mitchell flat rate is 6 1/2 hours. It took me about 12 hours.
As many have said before, pressure test the new core before installing. There are a lot of units out there which come from you-know-where and quality can be iffy.
Thanks Redwing. I received my new core by Fedex yesterday. Not to happy to see Korea stamped on the side. I will pressure test before removing existing one.

I think as long as you test it before installing you should be ok. I managed to find a GM unit last year, but I think they're made in Mexico anyways.
