Almost mangled my fingers in front coil spring
I not sure what happened but I compressed the coil on the car so I could spin it around to seat it in propery in the top A arm. All of a sudden, bang, the spring let loose and just missed my fingers. I'm not sure whether one of the arms was not in place properly or more disturbing, the threads let go. I know that this can happen because my original scissor jack let go when I jacking my car up.
Both these devices work on the same principal and have a long threaded bolt that takes the load. The spring compressor was new, only used a couple of times but the threads look a little worn but none of them broken or completly
mashed.
I was wondering if anyine else has had similar experieneces.
Re: Almost mangled my fingers in front coil spring (MotorHead)
I just changed out my springs last weekend I did not have the arms securly in place and the poped off. I was compressing at the time.I have one spring I need to spin. I could not spin it by compressing the spring. I will be re-doing that spring soon.
Re: Almost mangled my fingers in front coil spring (76 Red)
I was doing an old 66 mustang with the 3 independant compressors that I bought from J C Whitney. One side worked fine. When I did the other side the one compressor slipped sideways on the spring as I was putting it back in and caught the tip of my finger. I was able to yank it out with minimal damage but if it was in deeper it would have been much worse.
These things are scary to work with. The next time I had the shop do it. :smash:
