Default Some timing questions

Trying to get my car ready for vettes at race rock tomorrow...

1) Does being more advanced or more retarded tend to make the car overheat? I know one of them does, can't recall which

2) No-one laugh at this one... Is BTDC above the zero on the tab or below? mine is so dirty / nasty I managed to mark the zero line, but thats it

3) Should the carburator end up richer with more advance and leaner with less?

4) Ooooh this may be a problem too, where should the vacuum advance line go to? Right now it goes directly to the carb to a fitting next to one of the fuel bowls.... The carb was installed by bubba (the prior owner) so this may not be helping...

Thanks!!

Advancing the timing makes it run hotter.
BTDC is above(counterclockwise)to the "zero" mark.
Running richer will help cooling, at the expense of using fuel as a cooling medium.
Hope that helps
Scott

#1: Both CAN cause overheating...with retarded timing the engine doesn't make enough power to overcome internal friction AND drive the car, with too advanced you get pre-ignition (pinging) which acts against the engine cranking direction and results in not enough power. All of this means that the engine has to work harder to make the car go.

#3: air/fuel mixture is independent of ignition timing...in other words it doesn't change when you change your timing.
