hello folks, i had my mechanic do a brake job on my vette a couple of weeks ago. a few days after getting it back, the right front tire began squeaking annoyingly. i took it back and he corrected the problem - but now it's doing it again. it's a constant squeak while i'm driving that diminishes as i step on the brake.
(and not sure if it's connected, but i have noticed a pull to the side when i brake - which it didn't do before.)
any ideas of where to start looking/poking around?

Start looking for a new mechanic ! Could be a sticky caliper or wheel bearing.
i know, right? actually, he's trustworthy (my father has used him for over 20 years) and affordable (won't rip me off). and, his tune-up job left my vette purring like it just left the showroom...
If it's pulling left when you brake, then it's probably because the right brakes are dragging and fading from the heat. Do you smell something burning after you drive several miles?
When you say "brake job," what did he do? Replace pads? Calipers? Lines? What all was done? What kind of pads? Which direction does the car pull when braking? These details may help give some idea.

thanks for the reply.
as far as i know, the pads were replaced but i'm not sure of the extent of the "brake job" beyond that (i'm not sure what kind of pads).
i believe the car pulls to the left, but only on firm/semi-sudden braking (like when freeway traffic slows).

eh, no burning smell that i've noticed. but like i said in the reply above it does pull left - but mostly when i brake firmly (not in typical driving).

Some other possibilities:
1. Check the right front pads and make sure they are installed correctly with the braking material against the rotor (both pads facing inward toward the rotor). A simple mistake could have been made.
2. Check the right front pads and rotors for contamination. Clean with brake parts cleaner, if so.
3. Are all the pads the same type? Never mix types. Could cause pulling to one side.
4. Do the pads have any anti-squeal backing on them? Sometimes they come off when installed. (This shouldn't cause your pulling problem, though.)
5. Make sure the R/F caliper was bled properly (no air). And no leaks in lines.
For the noise only , remove the trim ring on that wheel and see if the noise goes away.
You wouldn't think that wheels flex but they must as I have had to lube the 4 clips that hold the trim ring to keep them from squeaking.
One other thought for a squeaky tire. I've heard tires squeak , maybe from shifting belts due to being damaged ?
The pulling front brakes could be old, internally collapsing front brake hoses if they aren't new-especially with no visible fluid leaks on close inspection. It could also be excessive wheel bearing play or a stuck caliper as others have said.
The growling could be the parking brake improperly adjusted or some broken brake parts loose inside that rear brake disc/drum. Good luck.
