exhaust
a. by getting rid of the catalytic converter, it will lower interior floor heat issues.
b. reduce back pressure, but not enough to have to re-ject the carb.
c. deepen the exhaust note and increase the exhaust loudness (still using the factory style mufflers).
Was told that the catalytic converter is restrictive, huge heat creator underneath the car, and also quiets the car down.
Anybody install this type of system on their C3 ? If so, going to true duals and running factory type mufflers...how did it affect the sound?
Would like a deeper and somewhat louder sound without the resonance/drone and "raspiness" of say a Flowmaster mufflers.
thanks
Save yourself some money and have a local muffler shop with a mandrel for bending build the exhaust.
Sometimes, they will balk a bit because it may be illegal for them to remove a cat. In that case, go to your local parts store and get a piece of exhaust about 2 feet long. Take it home, cut out the converter and clamp your newly purchased pipe in its place. It can be ugly, doesn't matter because it’s only a “test pipe”. Then go back and ask them to do the exhaust. They're off the hook and you get an improvement.
By the way, that's re-jet the carb. Entirely different deal... :-)
