Default Who keeps the heat riser?

I am getting ready to install dual exhaust (once it arrives) and was wondering how many people keep the heat riser when they do exhaust work. I know many of you have headers, therefore it must not be a big deal, just a little longer to warm the engine up. I do live in South Bend, IN and will drive until it is gets down into the 40's so I am torn between keeping it on the car or keeping it in a box in the basement. Thanks for the input.

Mine is long gone and I have headers w/ manual choke. I agree that electric choke is the way to go and a future upgrade for me. Are you keeping stock exhaust ram horns? If so, why would you remove? If you are installing headers, then you could buy the adapter to connnect. Mine warms up in a couple of minutes and is no big deal, but I only drive when weather is nice.

I don't know what system you purchased but you may need to keep the heat riser so the passenger side exhaust pipe is long enough to match up to the exhaust manifold.

Dummy risers are avail to make up the difference in length from the manifold to the exhaust pipe in case you want to ditch the riser.

I prefer an electric choke myself.

Good luck.

I tack-welded the end of my new heat-riser shaft in the open position. If the future caretaker happens to live in the frozen north, he can easily cut the weld off. Without periodic lubrication, the shaft soon becomes corroded and locked. You don't want that to be in the closed position.

Toss the heat riser and buy the spacer block.
