Default Spark Plug question please

I have a 71 car with a 350 motor that is stock except it has a flame thrower coil and electronic ign trigger.

The owners manual calls for a R44TS AC plug

The car has R45TS pligs in it.

What is the difference between the 2 plugs?

Is there some gain in usung the 45 over the 44?

Thanks David

Would the 45 allow a wider gap?

Does a wider gap help?

The 44 is a cooler plug than the 45. I realize the manual (mine as well) calls for a 44 but I have always had better luck (no fouling) with a 45. The gap will be the same for both. I have points/condensor and use 0.035" but your setup will probably call for 0.045".

The difference is heat range...the 45TS is a hotter plug. The standard plug is all you need unless you're experiencing a specific problem like oil burning where the hotter plug can keep from fouling.

As far as gap, etc., all stock specs should be followed.

Default Spark plugs

This is a subject that could go on for days and days, I believe all spark plugs heat ranges, are the lower the number the colder the plug. Except Bosh, there may be one other brand out there that uses higher numbers like Bosch. If you are a in town or around town driver the stock plug will be exactly what you need. GM has already thought abought all of every thing you can think of. The gas we use now is crap but with the proper tuning, timing and carb, these old cars will run just fine. Unless you are racing it at the strip. If you want to get technical put 45s in it and drive 500 miles, take them out, put 44 in it drive 500 miles then compare the two plugs. Get you a plug comparison chart compare the three this will tell you what is what. My 69 350/350 on 91 runs just fine on the stock plug, stock engine, you will learn how to look at the plugs and determine witch plug is best for you. GOOD LUCK.
