I have the gearbox (4-speed) from my 69 on my workbench. I have found out that the speedometer driving gear is not fixed on the axle, i.e if the driven gear is removed you can stick your finger in and move the driving gear up and down on the axle and the speedometer will ofcourse not work. So, I need to fix this.
1) How is the gear supposed to be fixed on the axle?
2) What are the major steps in opening the gearbox to get access to the gear? I have no experience of this, is it a major job? Does somebody have a good reference on the net?
Ok, but what do I need to do to remove the tail shaft cover? Just the 6 bolts? I was thinking since the reverse lever is there it would make it more complicated, but I guess I will find out...
