I have found two very interesting articles or tech papers concerning the use of toluene as an octane booster. Supposedly it is already in today's fuel. According to the article couple of gallons per tank wil raise the octane about 5 points. does anyone know anything about this?
Before good race fuels were available in my area I use to mix my own. I used toluene. But it is very dry and will wash away any oil film causing intake valve stem and guide wear. I had to add an upper lube like Klotz to offset the wear but that would lower the octane rating so it was a real balance on the amounts used.
You would be better off mixing in a little race fuel like Turbo Blue or Phillips 66 or Cam2.
