Good morning guys I'm looking to build my corvette into a street legal racing machine. so I'm looking at engine and trans that would get the job done right.
engine 502 crate engine
trans auto is what I'm looking for with a trans brake but which one
frame ??? what can I do to beef it up to handle 700hp
if people have picture please post'em
(I'm sure the info is out there already but lets get that info in a all in one trend )
if your gonna feed 700 ponies to the drivetrain. your gonna need to change everything. the stock components will handle about 450 hp. go to tom's diff's for all your needs. iv'e got 500 hp. it does break from time to time.would like to upgrade to 1000 hp parts for the durabillity one day.
This could get very involved. First...what 502 crate motor? Most are pretty wussy. Long way from 700HP unless you add N20.
Trans brakes aren't going to help unless you have killer traction and a converter to use it. In fact trans brakes don't always help at all....they negate some of the best characteristics that a converter has.
Definitely need to decided on rear end. You can build the IRS to handle the power..no problem. But it costs $$. Cheaper by a little bit to install a solid axle...just have to decide what you want.
Give us more details of what you're planning. How much street and how much race? How willing are you to work on it? What will it weigh? Give us an idea of what you consider streetable. What RPM range will you be willing to spin it to?
Yes definitly need to beef up the rear end by either doing the 12 bolt conversion or a straight axle swap. 502 big block crate motors from gm are very weak sauce. If you do a bit of homework on what components to put on a 500 cube bbc, 700-800 hp is easily done for a pump gas motor that perfectly streetable. I use a trans brake at the strip in my th400 trans. I like it alot, mostly because I cut better lights with it. I also use the trans brake switch to trigger the nitrous out of the hole too. when it is released, it triggers the nitrous.
