Ok got new neutral safety switch put in. It still trys to engage starter when putting in drive while running if the green and pink wires are connected. Can unplug the green and pink it does not try to engage. seat belts not plugged in. can not find any bare wires. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance

My 77 wiring print shows my wires to be purple/white from ignition source to switch and purple from switch to solonoid switch. Print shows switch to be closed in park and neutral only. I would disconnect those wires and ohm thru the switch and see if your switch is closed in any other gear position.

does your sheet show what the pink and the green wires are for ? Works ok when the plug with purle wires are hooked up. But when I plug the plug with the pink and green that comes off the neutral safety switch and get to drive, starter trys to engage. Does not do it in reverse, neutral or park. There is nothing plugged to the plug that has the 2 pinks, pink with white and brown with yellow.

Did you ever try unplugging the seat belt interlock relay in the console ?

No seat belt relay under console and no seat belts in car right now. All of interior is out of car now to restore. Any idea why it only does it when back up wires are pluged up? Thanks again for all of the replys. This is driving me crazy

Sounds like the switch is shorting internally from the backup to the start position.
Ring it out with an ohm meter.
