hi. all
i have 81 vette 4 sp like 15 yr ago i replace the clutch if not mistaking it was a zoom clutch, pressure plate, bearing.after less than a month i had a little fender bender the car sat indoor until this yr car was not been driven, so i fix the car i started hearing a whining noise when the clutch was not engaged so i replace the bearing but i still hear the whining noise what could that be thanks to all for your help
The gearbox input shaft spins in the pilot bearing when you depress the clutch. When you release the clutch, the clutch engages the flywheel and rotates the entire pressure plate and drives the gearbox input shaft, so it rotates at same speed as crank.
If your noise occurs when the clutch pedal is depressed, then it's the pilot bearing or gearbox shaft.
How bad was the fender bender?
Would it have been enough to cause any misalignment of trans to motor??? ie possible bent shaft or broken mounting bolts?
Did you replace the release bearing, the pilot bearing, or both? If you just replaced the release bearing it probably needs a pilot bearing. One other possibility... if your engine has a lot of miles on it you could have a worn thrust bearing allowing a lot of movement of the crankshaft causing the noise.

Otherwise I'd suspect a worn pilot bearing (bush)
i'm not sure if i replace the pilot bearing i also need to check my trans mount bolts.
the fender bender was minimal no structural damage thank all for the input i'll kept you posted
