this is in response to Horsepower thread.... in this thread they talk about L-82's andL-48's i didnt notice there being two untill now.... i believe my original engine( i still have it, but not installed) was a l-82.... which was better?? L-48 or L-82? its a 79, maybe i misread but were there these two options in 79? thanks for any info
The L-48 was the standard engine and the L-82 was the only optional engine in 79. The L-82 had a 4 bolt block, forged pistons, Aluminum intake manifold, Aluminum Valve Covers. In 79 the L-48 was rated at 195hp and the L-82 was rated at 225hp.
To verify for sure: check your VIN number......If the fifth digit is an "8", its a L-48, if it is a "4" its an L-82.......the source of this info comes from my "Corvette Black Book." Hope this helps.......... :D
