Default ATT 79 owners!! modified engine, new engine, etc, need advice

ok so heres where i am at. i got my yellow 79 with my 383 in it... no axle i ripped that out tryin out the new motor :cry but the first 79 i had been looking at was my bosses, and now he wants to sell it ( last time i asked him he wouldnt) well he offered me a price i am having a hard time resisting. i have another motor sittin in my garage that is a modified 350 with about 460 lb ft tq and 420 hp. at crank. what is the most power youve been able to put into your cars without having to reinforce or replace anything as i am thinking i want to buy his (its worth like 8k and he wants 2k- just bought a new one no room in garage) i got the money but i dont like 79's power ratings. its a l-82. thanks all and if anyone has a car with around that rating of power tell me what u did have to do . thanks all

The stock rearends will live happily with 500hp/500ft lbs. as long as you don't run around on slicks all day. The shock is what kills parts. For the most part the ujoints will give before anything else will. Of course this is assuming the rear is in good shape to start with. I started with a fresh rebuilt 4.11 geared diff. New bearings, seals, clutch packs, ring gear setup by a professional (thanks John). A good idea is to limit axle movement with a heavy spring so the back end won't sag so much upon load.
