Does anyone know where to find information on the headlight systems in a 79' Vette?? I can't find anything, even the repair manual doesn't cover it. Any help would be appreciated...
They don't move, and a lot of the vaccum hoses in the engine compartment have been messed with it looks like. I guess I need a diagram of the routing, and anything else that would help.
jerry, there is a wealth of information here. don't really know where to point you for advice except the factory service manual or just tell us what the problem is and see who else has had the same problem.
Are there any components of the system that commonly go bad on these?
the most common problems with the headlight system is the check valve located in the hose from the manifold (between carb and distributor), the vacuum relays and the seals on the actuator canisters.
Just a thought. If your headlights don't move, check your T connectors from the vacuum relays. I had a "lazy" driver's side light (it tended to go up when the lights weren't on or it wouldn't close.) My problem was a crack in the T connector. They tend to dry-up and crack over the years. I couldn't see a crack in it, but as soon as I replaced it, my headlight(s) were fine. 2 bucks for a set of 4 from NAPA.
If you do have to rebuild or replace components for your system Zip has the parts you need on sale right now, I just ordered mine yesterday. Looking forward to proper functioning light! :D http://store.yahoo.com/zipproducts/h...omponents.html

I believe I found everything I needed on CorvetteFaq.com. There is an entire section on headlight vacuum system repair, along with vacuum hose diagrams.
