Working on a 78 coupe. Trying to remove headlight switch so can replace dash. Pushed button on switch until fingers sore, but can't get the **** and shaft to come out. I know they say to be patient, but I aint no saint and feel like ripping it out. Any suggestions?
Try flipping the button with your finger a few times while turning the ****, sometimes they stick. Patience will win on this, you just gotta keep trying.
Paving , the shaft goes through a hole in a lever and when you push down your trying to center the hole around the shaft so it will slide out of the hole.
Depending on the HL switch it is possible to push too hard and you go past center, relocking the shaft.
Sometimes I have to pull up or down on the shaft while holding down on the button. It can be touchy , a little like threading a needle.

I agree with this! And a little wiggle on the shaft can go a long way sometimes.
