Need advice from CF members onec again!!
Looking at 69 BB today. (Previous related post on this event is....(69 Guys, Need Advice) Where is the date code on a 69 BB. Not sure. Any help would help. L8TER, Paul.
The date code on a 69 is on the trim tab on the front drivers door jamb. Mine is M20 which means it was built late in the year on September 20, 1969. The 69 production year began in September of 68 with the 'A' code. The trim tab will also have the paint and interior color codes so you can check if the colors are original. Good luck and post pics if you can.
The engine casting number and casting date code should be on the back of the block above the bellhousing. I'm not versed on how to decode them but I'm positive there are guys here that can help you if you post the numbers here. Obviously, the engine casting date code should precede the car's build date by at least 1 1/2 weeks or so but the stamp pad info above should prove it's a true (original engine) numbers matching car. Keep in mind, even if it is a correct GM installed replacement block it will begin with 'CE' in the ID number on the stamp pad and the number suffix will not match the VIN. Good luck!
Mark, OK, got it. I was just out in the garage trying to find the engine date code on my 80. At this point, Ican't see a thing. Probably in a different location for my year. Also, The M20 on your trim tag...how does that translate into 9/20/69. Thanks, L8TER, Paul.

"A" is the first month of production, usualy August but for 69 it was Sept, "B" is the second month of production, etc. The two numbers are the day of the month. This gives you the day the body was built. The day off the assembly line is usualy one to two days later. Could be more if the body was built on Friday. Then you have it sitting there Sat and Sun, and if Mon is a holiday, nothing is done with it till Tuesday.
Tom... Thanks. This is what my 80 trim tags says: First : Trim 122(Oyster-Leather) then 13U then 07M. All in a row. Which is the body build code date?
I don't know. The build date should follow the word "Chevrolet" at the top. the 122 is the oyster-leather and 13U is Silver paint. Don't know about the 07M.
