I have a 75 L82 4 Speed, that Ive had the battery replaced on twice. The mechanic said the first battery was defective and replaced it with another new one. The car has not been driven very much, last time I drove it was about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Today I go out to start it up It trys to turn over, but no luck i try this 2 or 3 times but the battery runs out of juice before
welcome to the all elusive electrical gremlins. Every spring I have to recharge mine because it goes dead because of a battery drain.
It is easier to charge it each spring, for me.
I am not sure that i snot an option GM did not charge for - battery drain. Have a 73 and same thing. Checked all circuits and nothing. After 3-5 days the battery is donw ot about 8 volts, not enough to crank it.
Put one of those terminal disconnects on the ground side and when I bring it home I open the ground connection. Sometimes a pain in the butt as I lose the radio stations but it now keeps the charge.
:mad
Unless you know for sure there's a short, I would just go with a battery quick disconnect. MidAmer sells them, ecklers sells them, almost everyone does. If my car sits idle for even a few days it starts to get hard to start.
Have you tried to trace down the source of the drain? Figuring out the problem isn't generally TOO hard... I was tired of my battery dying on me so I set aside a Saturday to track down the problem. Well worth it because I solved the problem and potentially prevented something much worse from happening. Generally speaking I don't like unsolved mysteries with regards to electrial problems. Who knows what the problem could be! (short, etc!) :cry
