Default Removing my sidepipe headers

I'm going to start stripping my car soon for paint and was wondering if I can remove the Hooker sidepipe headers with the engine in place. When I installed the motor, the headers were in the car. Am I going to have to pull the engine out?

I have a 1969 small block. I can get my Hooker sidepipe headers in and out with the engine in place. I do have to lift the car up and take on side out from below, but it can be done.

I think you need to have the car up on stands fairly high to be able to
maneuver them out, plus you need to maybe pull the spark plugs, starter, and whatever else you have that will be in the way.

I had a 65 that I installed without much work,small block,4 speed,up high on good quality jack stands,pretty easy

Not knowing what year ,motor size options all makes a difference,I am guessingbig block, small block

Hi You can drop the headers out the bottom after you remove side tubes ,z bar if stick, spark plugs for safety of breaking one.A lift is good because car must be about 3 feet off the ground. If on a drive on lift you will need to use about a 20 inch jack stand also.Do you really need to remove them.Remove the rocker covers and wrap the side tubes with paper. Also if on a frame lift you can remove them with out seperating side tubes. just my experiances with mine. Not really a hard job. John

Well, getting it 3 feet in the air might be a problem. I don't have easy access to a lift anymore. I guess I could just cover them.

Anyone know what chemical stripper does to chrome?

Thanks
