hi all,
looking to buy a hurst shifter @ summit and dont want to buy the wrong parts. i read a couple posts where people had some problems hitting console. anyone succesfully install one with no problems? if so, can i have part numbers? oh yeah, '69 coupe, 4 speed muncie m21.
these are the part #'s i came up with:
shifter: huu-3917992
install kit: huu-3738611
shifter boot: not sure what to get, any advice would be greatly appreciated!
eel, I replaced mine back in 2001 with Hurst shifter when I rebulit tany. Its a nice mod and I got mine from Ecklers at the time and replaced the shifter handle with a stock look a like and everything came with it the kit(no guessing part numbers). I'm very pleased with it. I looked and Ecklers they no longer have them. But Corvette Central does carry it and its a complete kit much like the one I purchased back then. It does come with the stock shifter also. The price now which I cannot get over is almost twice as much as I paid back then. Right at $419.00 I only paid at the time about $250.00!! Guess stuff has really went up. I know its high but by the time you add up all the parts its probably about the same price. Up to you though. Tried using a trany rebulid place for the parts for my T-10 rebuild and the guy keep stacking up parts and pices on the counter until it was the same price as a kit from Ecklers. Go figure. Only thing on the install is them damm C clip connecters on the shif levers. They will drive you bloody crazy. Just my opinion an 2 cents adain. By the way Boot should be the same. Thanks

I did the conversion on my '76 with a M-21 and used the same items you mentioned.... worked fine. The lower shifter boot I used came from Zip..
dobro, man that brings back memories. Looks good like the way you mounted the shifter to trany then installed back in car. I wasn't that bright and mounted mine after trany was back in car. I wasn't and still not the smartest at things like that. But know I know if i have to do it again for someone, Thanks for sharing.
I picked up a hurst super shifter which has straight linkage rods and somewhat stronger constuction and will shift faster and more positive than any shifter you ever put your hands on other than the old hurst-ramrod shifter which was a vertical gate shifter with a separate reverse.
I had to cut apart the mounting ***.and move it back 3/4" and move it in 3/4" to make it fit the console perfectly . Unbeleivable
Still got the RamRod hanging on the office wall .Last shift made at
Sufolk raceway Va. around 1971.
Good luck
