I went with a rebuilt box from this guy on ebay for $130 I spoke with him several times and he was very easy to work with and knowledgeable.
Then bought a rag joint repair kit for $10 or so from a local parts place. This resolved my issues.
You have to get under and have someone elses IN the car turning the steering wheel just till the wheels move and look at each piece and find where the play is happening.
Well, I just got back from New Haven CT, dropping off my OEM box to Gary (GTR1999), and all I can say is that this guy, Gary, is awesome!! He spent 2 hours with me taking apart my box and inspecting each and every part and bushing. My box was in very good shape and my gears are perfect (not being replaced, 65,000 Miles on the box and all original, never touched). He painstakingly explained what he will be replacing and why and how he hand adjusts and shims anything that needs a shim to get the tolerances that the box should have when new and in some cases, tighter tolerances than even the box should have had when new. There are about 4 areas that he tightens up beyond what the factory originally called for and in most cases, the box did not have when slapped together from the factory. He also cleans everything including the box casing, paints it with POR 15, and will finish it with any color you want (most cases black or a stock cast look). I had to leave it with him and will be picking it up from him in about a week since it is relatively easy for me to get to him but he uses the mail system for most rebuilds. He also showed me how he sets the adjustment screw on these boxes. I was very impressed! I am picking it up on Tuesday, Oct 26, 2010 this month.
Glenn 242 and Twinpack, I would talk to GTR1999 before you do anything. Borgeson boxes are repro's of the factory casing using the stock components and I am sure not blueprinted and hand adjusted (we talked about Borgenson box's, other rebuilds, and the rack and pinion conversions). Gary is charging me $300 for what he is doing for me and guarantees the box will be better than it was today and when it was new. Gears are $245 on top of the $300, if your box needs them. He is not cheap but he is providing a service that just about no one else offers. There are other people like Gary doing this type of work but the mass retailers offering rebuilt boxes I would shy away from if you are truly looking to get the most out the OEM box!
Hope that helps!!!

Thanks for the feedback. Can you provide contact info?
This forum has had a great deal of positive feedback on Borgeson boxes and on Jeep conveesion boxes. Do a search.
These boxes are all based on a modern (1990's) design Delphi box usrd in the late 90's Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is an integral box that does away with the C3'3 control valve and external ram. It is an easy bolt in and quite inexpensive (I paid less than $700 for the box, stainless u-joint to replace the rag joint and the drag-link adaptor for my power steering relay rod. I reused my PS pittman arm.)
Took my box out today and driving to New Haven Ct tomorrow, Sunday, to have GTR1999 rebuild it while I wait-That is service!!! I will talk with him about contacting him-He no longer is on this forum. He can be found on digitalcorvettes.com.
I won't post GTR1999's email on the forum, but I will give it to anybody that IM's me.
I couldn't have down time. So Gary shipped me a rebuilt box to install and then I pulled mine as a return core.
I had already replaced everything on my steering and it still wasn't quite right. The new steering box brought my confidence level back up. My street front tires are 275/17 kumhos on 17 X 10 inch front wheels and 700 pound QA-1 coil over springs so it really abuses the steering parts. I actually cracked my frame where the lower A-arm connects and I had to reenforce and weld it up stronger than new.

I bought the same box from Borgenson Universal, but I was sent a rag joint that looks simular to the original. The t plate and the curved end with a round piece of rubber sandwiched between the 2 ends. I was not sent the stainless steel u-joint. Do you have a part number for that joint. I have the Borg box for 8 months and since then, the rag joint has failed twice. Luckally, I was not driving that fast.
