I'm going to Lebanon Valley dragway next sat with my buddies. This will be my first time racing this car. I'm looking for any tips that may help me.
I just installed new 275/60/15 nitto drag radials and I have my linelock hooked up.
Whats a good PSI to run the drag radials at? i have them at 30-32psi on the street and i get wheel hop when I whack it from a 15mph roll. From dead stop I smoke up the tires all thru 1st gear. With my old bfg street tires the car will spin tires 1st thru 3rd like the car was driving on ice. I can also leave marks from 1st or 2nd gear roll. But with the drag radials on it grips alot better but gets a little wheel hop.
Heres my set up:
sbc 365rwhp 410rwtq, 4spd stick, 3.73 gears. The car has 15x4" convo pros in front and 15x8.5" in rear. I have a lighter hood, no spare tire, and hooker headers and sidepipes with no baffles. I have to get the car weighted, I have no clue what it weights.
Front : 550lb vbp coils, bilstein shocks
rear: 12bolt, 31 spline axles, 3.5" HD halfshafts, spicers, Traction bar. 7leaf steel spring and bilstein shocks.
I was considering trying 90/10 lakewood drag shocks up front and disconnecting sway bar. I also my try a diff. rear spring.
Drop the nittos down to 18psi to start, do a good burn out the first pass with them. Don't "shock" them by straight up dumping the clutch, just come out about 3500rpms, smoothly/quickly release the clutch while feeding it throttle keeping the rpms up....once the clutch is fully out, nail the throttle....all of this should be done by the no more then 30-40' out....... Bang all the gears and keep it pinned through the end....
Pass two, if it hooked the first time, try again but this time getting the clutch out quicker and the throttle wide open sooner....
Just practice, practice, practice, analyze your time slip's incrementals. Make changes accordingly. Once you get it consistant to some degree, start jetting it up and watch the MPH.....Also bump up the timing a couple degrees after you have gone up a couple jet sizes....Keep feeding it fuel and timing until the MPH stops picking up. It would be wise to throw a couple gallons of 104-110oct fuel in it also for safety. You should be able to go low 12s to high 11s pretty easy I believe once you get the launch down... Some ET Street bias ply tires would really work well for you...You will need 1.60 60's to go 11s more then likely.
Good luck! Get pics/vids and post up when you can.
My little brother will be up there this weekend if you see him stop by and say hello. He can help you out with a lot of your questions. he drives the chevelle.
We're going to the track next weekend on sat. morning. Hopefully its a nice day. I'm going to get 5 gallons of race gas and mix it with a few gallons of 93pump gas. I want to bump timing up to 33-34 deg from 30deg and swap in a new set of colder a/c delco plugs. I'm going to practice my launch tomorrow afternoon at 18psi. I'm also going to try and get the car weighted this week before I go to track.
I went down to the local dump and had the car weighted today. 3240lbs without me in it and 3430lbs with me in it. my old 75 weighted 3450lbs without me. This new car is 210lbs less!
