Default 73 won't stop running!

Went for a cruise after a long hot summer here in Phoenix and everything ran fine, no problems until I pulled in the driveway and turned the key off. It kept running! The radio stayed on, the AC kept blowing air. I pulled toe key out of the lock and it still kept running. I tried turning it on and off several times and after a few tries, it turned off. It has never done this before and I have no idea where to look first. I would imagine it is something in the ignition lock mechanism but how do I get in there without destroying it? Anyone heard of this before? Thanks, Zack

It fairly sure its not the ignition lock mechnism. There is a shaft running from that to a switch mounted on the top or possible off to the side of the steering column. You can get at it by dropping the knee pad.

the way the system works is when you turn the key the lock mechanism pulls on the shaft (maybe 5-6 inches long) that connects to the switch...it clicks it to the on position....when you shut the car off it clicks it to off position.

I suspect you need to replace that switch. It cheap and still available.

My problem with that was a bit different....the shaft had slipped out of the switch. Since you got yours to work I suspect the switch is on the way out.

If the start bypass wire, (small inside terminal on the starter solenoid), moves and touches the battery terminal on the starter it'll do that too.
