Added these to build thread as well. Installing this engine in a car without body was a 5 on a difficulty scale of "10". With body on, can't say what it would be like. The LS motor mount adapters were easy and fitment was perfect. I think if you were to remove the entire serpentine drive it may be a weekend project to just get in the car adapting all the other stuff who knows?
The vendors I've used have been spot on up to now with 99% of everything going as planned. Turnkey, Speed Direct, Van Steel. I was supplied the wrong crank adapter for the trans or it would have gone in together. Trans should be in by Thursday.
Thanks to the forum for all the encouragement and positive feedback.
You sir are a lucky man. What are you planning for the differential? Keep up the good work.
Go look at the entire build thread, (Z068 rear suspension complete photo) the differential is in the car, stock rebuilt 3:08 gears. And its called stupidity not luck
Anyone with an LS7 between their frame rails can't be all that stupid. You have to be doing something right.
Just noticed those bolts holding the lower control arms to the frame are way to long. Hey I'm jealous, I have to nit pick something.
Gordon,
They are long, I got them from Corvette Central and are the same length as the original ones. I will shorten them after I get the front end aligned. Oh you said lower control arms....those are the originals. I thought that as well and don't understand why they are so long. I might trim them as well, they wont be seen once car is further along.
Looking again at your lower control arms I see you have tubular ones. The mount it looks like is very thin. The stock lower control arm has a very thick shft that mounts there so those are probably correct length for stock shafts. It always seems every time you modify one thing you have to change 3 or 4 others to make it fit and look right.
Gordon,
Funny thing happen today whilst installing engine. I removed the belt and the AC compressor to get to a front cylinder head bolt. I finished the installation and reinstalled the AC compressor. For the life of me I couldn't get the belt back on right?????. My charming wife came outside to see what all the yelling was about and promptly put the belt on properly without ever seeing it on prior??
I would get ahold of SAMMAN as he has dropped an LS7 in his 68 already and is thoroughly enjoying it. I think he also put a C4 suspension in the rear with C4/C5 in the front but he would be the best one to talk with.
If this is going in your car what have you done with the mill in your avatar?
That would look aweful good sticking out of my hood
Dantana,
That is a 10:71 blown and intercooled Dart motor. it was a 510 to start back about 15 years ago, its been in and out of three boats and I think the last redo was 540 inch's. I am actually taking it out of my current boat, a 25 foot Eliminator Daytona and putting it in a GS marine 21 foot jet called a Phantom, Fast boats my friend.......no speeding tickets and legal lake racing.
@ Z068,
Doesn't the LS7 have the dry sump oil system?? If so, are you keeping it or are you opting for a F-Body style pan? Sorry if you have already answered these questions, but I just recently started following your build. I will be starting my own FO in the next year on my 76. So I will likely have many more questions for you.

JR,
Yes, the LS7 is dry sump, Turnkey gives you the option for either dry or wet, I chose dry. The guys at Turnkey are awesome, they will build your tank to fit anywhere you want on the car. I took the factory air/heat mess off the firewall and had a tank built that fits perfect up under the fender. I had made the decision to use vintage air so all that stuff needed to go anyway.
BTW, the tank is a work of art, highly polished & very cool
