Default Stock Vs. High Volume Fuel Pump

All of the "high volume" fuel pumps I have seen have only 2 fittings. The stock pump has 3, one extra for the vent/return line. I doubt I will ever need a high volume pump on my L48. If I ever do the mods I would like, at best I may increase the HP to 300-350. NAPA has a stock replacement for about 30 bucks, has anyone any experience with this pump?

i have no exp with this pump. i do run an ele on my 71 bb. the return fuel line is connected to the fuel log. it cycles excess fuel through the system all the time. this car also had a return line on the pump. i felt this was a better system than deadheading at the carb. just my opi. hope it helps robert

I think you will be fine with the stock-type fuel pump even if you do the 300-350 h.p. mods you're talking about, especially in a street-only type of car. I was running a stock fuel pump on a 5,500 RPM, 425 h.p. 415 SBC a while ago and the only fuel delivey problem I ever had was caused by a dirty/clogged filter.

I actually dropped the Holley fuel pump that came with my car, and now have another stocker on it now (albeit a GM replacement part...but NAPA generally has decent stuff). The stock fuel pumps were high performance and different than those on passenger cars (by how much I can't tell you). These pumps worked on the LT1s of the early 70s fine (I know that logic doesn't hold on a lot of things)...those were some pretty decent performance motors.
