Default Cuss words & Beer

I need to change the motor mounts in my 1978. I'm just wondering how many cuss words & beer it will take me. Any advice is welcome.
Thanks

Just allow plenty of time. Be careful under there & let us know when you come back out from under.

If the bolts come out easily....4 to 5 cusses and a six pack.
If the bolts(especially in the block) are frozen, you'll make Richard Pryor sound like a choir boy, and you'll drink enough to give up and try again tomorrow. If you snap a bolt in the block.....well, lets not go there. Get the front of the car on jack stands as high as you safely can, you'll want as much room as possible underneath.
Get the nuts off of the main through bolts on the mount, then jack the motor up(or use a hoist) just enough to get the weight off the bolts so you can pull them out. Then crawl, bend, twist, and contort till you can get to the three bolts holding the mount to the block.
Best of luck, and make sure the car is stable and the back wheels are chocked!!!!

I just did mine this weekend. It wasn't a bad job at all.

One side at a time, pull out the through bolt, jack it up until you clear the frame completely, 3 bolts, out-in, drop the motor back down, reinstall through bolt.

I did have a minor issue my new mounts (Prothane) in that the through bolt holes were just a smidge too high. So I wallowed them out a little with a big drill bit and gtg.

I loosened up the tranny mount. Loosened up BOTH motor mounts (but only removed one bolt at a time to replace).

I put a block of wood on my floor jack so that I could take the weight off. Removed the engine mount bolt. removed engine mount. Installed new Energy suspension Poly mount. Lowered motor. installed new ARP motor mount bolts (there shiney and pretty, LOL). Torque'd to factory specs :-)
I got all the parts at Summit.

It wasn't too bad. My Firebird was soooooo much worse to do then my 1980. There seems to be a lot of room underneath the C3.

I don't have LT header's though. Just the factory CA 305 SS shortie's.

A good quality 1/4 round head rachet makes those three motor mount bolts alot easier something like a Proto or Snap on
My motor mount bolts where in there pretty good had to use a little cheater pipe on the 1/4 rachet.

The only problem I ever run into is the front bolt on the drivers side that goes through the PS bracket. That one makes me cuss sometimes.

Thats the one I had a problem with yesterday. Last night at about 2am I found an OLD box wrench that was shaped like an "s". was able to get 1/4 turns out of it and finally get it off! Waiting for the new one to arrive tomm morning (fedex). Then install. Good luck, make sure the car is jacked properly. I myself used four jacks in the front. I work by myself and i hate going under cars with nobody around! I like to be safe then sorry.

Use George Carlin's 7 words you can't say on TV and a case of your favorite barley pop and you'll do just fine! Maybe add a few new words if problems arise.
