I just traded my '84 for a '78. The intake is a Edelbrock Performer RPM and the carb is a performer series 1406 (600 CFM). The recommended CFM for the intake is 750+. Should I swap out the intake for one a little more designed for my carb? Any pros and cons? All advice is appreciated! Thanks
600 will be easier to tune for your application. You could run a 750 to reduce some pumping restriction, but it may hurt your driveability depending on how good you/your mech is at dialing it in.
not looking to go crazy with car just one to enjoy driving it but fun to step on every now and again. any advantage to putting on an intake that is an idle-5500rpm rather than the 1500-6500 rpm that is on it now with the lower cfm carb?
Sorry to tell you i have not had good luck with the 1406, and it is currently on the shelf for sale. i went back to the stock QJ from Carb Junkys. Will never run an Eddy carb again. Toss a holley 670 avenger on it you will be further ahead.

Driveability will be better but top-end performance will suffer a bit. It's always a tradeoff. The reason that intake says to use a 750 is because a 350 ci engine is already ingesting about 600 CFM at only 5900 RPM. So if you actually plan on spinning it up to 6500 (not with an L48) then you quite literally need more breathing room. That being said, the difference between those two intakes will hardly matter with a 600 CFM carb. I'd put it together, see if you can dial it in to your liking. If not, then start throwing money at different parts.
